West Coast of Lewis
A tour around the westside circular of Lewis is a popular journey and during the summer jump on - jump off tickets are available from Stornoway Bus Station which allows you to plan a trip around the main sites on a regular service bus.
Sites of interest include:
Arnol Blackhouse - a traditional low-level stone-built rural crofter’s cottage which was at the heart of a historic crofting way of life.
Bragar Whalebone Arch - fashioned from the jaw of a huge blue whale which beached below the village in September 1920.
Carloway Broch - an impressive example of a unique Scottish fort originally built around 2000 years ago.
Gearrannan Blackhouse Village - traditional rural thatched houses used until about 50 years ago.
Clach an Tursa standing stone - a little known archaeological landmark in Upper Carloway. Believed to be originally a line of at least three monoliths, only one is upright with the others fallen.
