Eilean Glas Lighthouse

Eilean Glas lighthouse can be reached on the east side of Scalpay by foot over the boggy moor from Kennavay. The top of the light sits 47 metres above sea level on the tiny land-linked islet it is named after. The first lighthouse in the Outer Hebrides was built on this site in 1789 to be replaced by the current structure in 1824. Since 1978 it has been unmanned. There are regular guided walks to the lighthouse in summer.
